ABA Therapy

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied behavior analysis uses behavioral principles to develop new skills and make positive changes. At Luminate, play-based teaching methods are used that have been proven through research to unlock growth and learning.

ABA involves one-on-one sessions where therapists use positive reinforcement to teach and model behaviors. They work with each child to break down new skills into small, achievable steps.

What to expect from ABA Therapy

Initial Assessment:

Before ABA therapy begins, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®) conducts an evaluation to assess communication abilities, social interactions, behavioral patterns, and sensory sensitivities.

Individualized Therapy Goals:

BCBAs set individualized goals for therapy in collaboration with families.

1:1 Therapy Sessions:

Therapists use positive reinforcement and proven ABA techniques to reach developmental milestones and learn new skills.

Family Guidance:

Treatment includes regular meetings with BCBAs to provide caregivers with updates on progress and generalization of skills to the community and home.

What ABA Therapy model is used?

Natural Environment Teaching (NET)
NET uses natural surroundings in an engaging play space to teach important skills. This technique can help apply what is learned to real-life situations, making lessons more relevant and effective. While children lead the play experience, our clinicians are actively working on creating learning opportunities in the moment based on preselected goals. Working 1:1 with your child, therapists teach skills such as appropriate play, name recognition, sharing, and motor skills through activities that the child already enjoys.

Is ABA Therapy effective?

Yes! Decades of research have shown that children who receive two or more years of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) make significant progress in multiple areas of their lives. When started early and delivered consistently, ABA therapy leads to meaningful growth in communication, learning, and behavior.

How much does ABA Therapy costs?

ABA therapy is covered by most private health insurance plans. Luminate is working to be in-network with many of the country’s largest insurers. Insurance can be tricky to navigate, so Luminate will check your benefits, explain your options, and take care of the paperwork for you.
